About ECSC

Europe’s platform for young cybersecurity talent.

The European Cyber Security Challenge connects national talent programmes into one European competition and community. It is supported by ENISA and links young high-potential talent with peers, coaches, institutions, research and industry.

How it works

National roots. European stage.

1. National selection

Countries identify their strongest talents through national cyber challenges, qualifiers, training programmes and selection processes.

2. National teams

Each team is built around ten young competitors, typically aged 14–25, supported by national coaches and organisers.

3. European final

Teams meet in a different European host country each year and compete across practical cybersecurity disciplines.

National Challenges → National Teams → ECSC Final → Team Europe → Community & Alumni

What the competition measures

Practical skill under pressure.

Jeopardy CTF

Teams solve challenges in areas such as web security, cryptography, reverse engineering, software and hardware vulnerabilities, forensics and exploitation.

Attack-Defense

Teams protect their own services, maintain availability, patch vulnerabilities and simultaneously identify weaknesses in competing teams.

Teamwork

The format rewards not only technical expertise, but coordination, prioritisation, resilience and the ability to make good decisions under time pressure.

Why ECSC matters

Cyber talent is infrastructure.

Europe cannot solve the cybersecurity skills challenge through recruitment alone. Talent has to be discovered earlier, developed systematically, connected across borders and retained in a community that creates reasons to stay, grow and contribute.

ECSC creates

Talent identification: National
Skills development: Practical
European connection: Cross-border
International excellence: Team Europe
Long-term community: Alumni
